Brevity Is The Soul Of Wit

 Brevity means conciseness is the literary component of every written as well as oratory statements. This is because these writings are succinct, brief and to the point. However, a short speech is more effective than a long, drawn-out statement. Therefore, the acumen of many speakers, writers, and poets is expressed in few words prolifically. This can be seen in the final sermon known as Khutbatu-I-Wida of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He (PBUH) clearly addressed that no one is superior over any other except by piety and good actions. It is easy to understand that if one does good action and shows piety, he will superior. His (PBUH) words were quite clear and concise, addressing the entire humanity. In another situation, a long and boring speech frustrates the audience. Also, the unreasonable words, which reiterate in speech, do not create a fruitful effect on listeners. In the case of journalists and news, brevity is the motto of the editorial columns. It is also a soul of wit in dialogues as well as dramas. Consequently, conciseness needs to be used in the presentation to create a good impact and to express the gems of wisdom of the speakers.
